On Sunday, 2 November, the final round of the ACI Italian Drifting Championship took place at the Varano de’ Melegari racetrack. Heavy rain made the event highly unpredictable, testing the drivers’ technique, composure and vehicle control.
Francesco Giori, from Lecco, driving for the FAR-supported GasBas Drifting Team, delivered a strong performance despite issues in qualifying caused by a driveshaft failure.
In the first battle he faced the title contender Michele Landolfi. The run was so evenly matched that the judges requested a rerun. In the second attempt, Giori came out on top, moving on to the next round against another title contender, Ivan Vogrig.
Giori once again demonstrated control and precision, earning his place in the semi-final against Luca Fuschini, who secured the Italian Champion title with his victory. Giori then claimed the third step of the podium by winning the battle for P3 against Riccardo Tonali.
There was further reason to celebrate within the team: in the “Street” category, Michele Apparato made an excellent debut, finishing 5th out of 17 competitors with a car prepared by Diego Gasparini and Cristian Bassi.
“This podium is the clear proof that consistency and commitment always pay off. A huge thank you to my team for their outstanding work, and to the sponsors who have believed in me since day one and never stopped supporting me,” said Giori. “A special thanks also to everyone who follows us, writes to us and cheers us on every day: you are part of this result as much as we are.”
The season ends on a positive note for the GasBas Drifting Team which, thanks also to the support of FAR, will now focus on planning for the upcoming racing season.
